Drone rucksack from Recon Company – transport for drones, FPV systems and Starlink

A drone rucksack is not simply a camouflage-patterned camera rucksack. It must be able to carry a drone, several batteries, a remote control and spare propellers in such a way that, after a two-hour walk over rocky terrain and tree roots, nothing is bent or broken. We curate this range according to the same criteria that we apply to our own products as a development partner for public authorities. The core of the range is currently made up of UTactic, a Ukrainian manufacturer with in-house development, design and production within the country, whose packs are refined through close feedback from users.

What sets a drone rucksack apart from a standard day rucksack

The key difference lies in the interior. Instead of a large main compartment with a laptop pocket, padded dividers split the space, which can be customised to fit the specific drone using Velcro. The DronePack comes with five small battery dividers as standard. This keeps the batteries separate from the body of the drone, preventing pressure marks on the arms and gimbal. Classic models from DJI and Autel fit into this compartment layout without the need for any DIY modifications.

• The main fabric is 500D Cordura with a polyurethane coating and water-repellent finish. You can set the rucksack down in drizzling rain without moisture immediately seeping into the compartment.
• The fabric has been treated for the near-infrared spectrum and does not glow under night-vision equipment. This is important for any activities taking place after dark.
• MOLLE and PALS attachment panels are located on the sides and underside. Additional pockets for tools, spare propellers or radios are positioned so they do not get in the way whilst carrying the rucksack.
• The shoulder straps are cut in such a way that the rucksack can be worn over a protective vest and the straps do not rest on the shoulder plates.

FPV drone rucksack for 7–8-inch and 10-inch models

FPV systems have different requirements to camera drones. An FPV drone rucksack rarely holds just one aircraft, but several at once, along with goggles, a transmitter and a bundle of batteries. The FPVpack 7–8 inches is designed for smaller frame sizes, whilst the FPVpack 10 inches is for the larger classes. The main compartment can be divided into six or more sections.

Two details make all the difference in the field. At the top are elastic straps to which a ready-to-fly drone can be secured on the outside without opening the main compartment. And all four sides are foldable: once unpacked, the bag can be folded flat and stowed away in the car or your accommodation, rather than taking up space as an empty shell. The shoulder straps can be stowed away in a separate compartment when the pack is stored as a case in the boot. Sensitive electronic equipment that needs to be taken along in the rain can be packed in a waterproof stuff sack as well.

Starlink rucksack for connectivity off the grid

The Starlink rucksack is the logical addition to the drone team, as reconnaissance images are of little use if they cannot be shared. The StarLink Backpack G2 and V3 models are designed to carry the rectangular satellite antenna, complete with router and cable set. Five rows of PALS-standard MOLLE webbing run along the sides for accessories, whilst the shoulder straps are padded, as the terminal and its peripherals are by no means lightweight.

Power supply is not provided with a Starlink rucksack . Those working independently should factor in power banks and rechargeable batteries as energy sources and supplement their positioning with GPS and digital navigation. At least this means you don’t have to lug the original box around – and that is precisely where most improvised solutions fall down.

UTactic range – classification and limitations

Prices range from the Battery Pack at 31.95 euros – a dedicated battery pouch for four additional batteries, which attaches via MOLLE to the side or bottom of the DronePack – up to the 10-inch FPV Pack in Multicam for 519.95 euros. In between are the Drone Pack and the Maxi Drone Pack, with the Maxi version designed for multiple drones at once or for charging stations. Colour options include Coyote, Ranger Green and Multicam.

It’s important to be clear about this: these are soft packs, not hard-shell cases. For air freight or protection against a fall from a height of two metres, you’ll need a hard case. For walking, loading into a vehicle and quick set-up at the launch site, they’re the better option because they remain portable and can be carried close to the body. Additional small items and organisers can be found in the equipment pouches, whilst the carry bags and shoulder bags offer compact solutions for remote controls and documentation. If you’re looking for a flat drone bag instead of a rucksack, opt for the foldable FPVpack models.
