In June 2006 Extrema Ratio® developed for the "185° Rgt. Ricognizione e Acquisizione Obiettivi"(Target Acquisition Regiment) of the paratrooper unit "FOLGORE"(185° RAO) a unique knife suitable for the specific operational tasks of this unit. This led to the RAO: not an oversized folder, more a compact survival & field knife with a heavy and reliable blade. Its very reliable locking system, supported by an additional safety device, makes this folder as effective as a fixed knife. The knife can be opened and closed with both hands. To minimize the risk of self-inflicted injuries, it has as an extra safety device a steel pin that screws through two holes in the solid aluminum handle
The sheath is an essential part of this "weapon system": it contains a diamond sharpener and it allows the user to carry the knife either in open position, or closed in the front pocket. The pouch can be attached to tactical vests or belts using the MOLLE/ PALS attachment system.
