How many pairs of socks do I need for a multi-day trip?
Rule of thumb: one pair per day plus a spare pair. With merino socks, you can space out the changes a bit more during low-intensity activities – their odour-inhibiting properties make this possible. What thickness of socks for heavy combat boots?
Medium cushioning is the standard for combat boots with a regular fit. If you lace your boots tightly or wear narrow lasts, it’s better to opt for light cushioning – too much bulk inside the boot can cause pressure points on the instep.

Can merino socks go in the tumble dryer?
No. Merino socks should be air-dried flat or hung up. Tumble dryers cause the wool fibres to become permanently matted. Wash at 30–40 °C on a gentle cycle; do not use fabric softener – this clogs the wool fibres and reduces moisture absorption.
