Originally worn by fishermen and sailors as working sweaters on the high seas, the Troyer has become a popular classic for leisure and work. Typical for a troyer is the high-closing turtleneck, which can be opened by a zipper or a button placket and then folded like the collar of a sailor's blouse.

The Elbe Merino Troyer by Elbe-Team is knitted in the traditional way in a robust pearly thread of twisted yarns. As is the case with real sailor sweaters, the yarns are dyed seawater and lightfast. The high-waist Troyer collar, cuffs and waistband are doubled. The high-quality equipment also includes a veneer of the zipper in the Troyerkragen.
