You should not trust any stab-resistant vest for use on duty unless it bears the VPAM certification mark.

Important to note when choosing: a stab-proof vest does not offer ballistic protection, and a plate carrier with a hard plate does not automatically protect against stabbing weapons. For combined threat scenarios, you need systems that cover both protection classes – or you can use a modular plate carrier with appropriate inserts. The right material and the right equipment

When it comes to material selection, 500D or 1000D Cordura nylon dominates the market for professional tactical vests. 500D is lighter and more flexible, and is sufficient for most operational scenarios. 1000D offers greater abrasion resistance but is noticeably heavier – a factor that becomes apparent over a long day on duty. Good plate carriers feature ergonomically shaped shoulder pads, a load-distributing carrying system and ventilated back padding. MOLLE loops and laser-cut systems allow for modular configuration. Magazine pouches, utility pouches, IFAK holders, hydration bladder pouches – everything can be attached and reconfigured using the standardised grid. They do not accommodate protective plates, but provide the necessary pocket configuration for a radio, magazine, map and first-aid supplies.
