The HAWU 4 group tent is suitable for 2-4 people and comes with a completely new design and concept as a modular group tent. The various set-up and configuration options make the HAWU one of the most flexible tents on the market. The HAWU from SAVOTTA can be

• be erected like an ordinary TIPI tent with a centre pole (optional),
• can be tied around an existing tree. The main suspension is fixed to the tree with loops and carabiners or
• or simply hung on a rope/branch between two trees

In addition, the HAWU can be divided into two halves and each half can be used as a tarp/loupe - ideal if, for example, a group of 2 men split up for a few nights while travelling and the group comes together again later. No poles are required for the corners and yet the HAWU offers enormous wind stability and optimised space compared to conventional TIPI construction. The HAWU tents have been developed to function and provide protection in extreme conditions - both in military and civilian outdoor use. The main focus during development was therefore placed on the two factors of utility and reliability - the HAWU should always work, under all circumstances!

Design and construction

• Particular emphasis was placed on making assembly as simple as possible and possible under almost all conditions. For example, the loops etc. are designed so that they can also be operated with gloves in very cold conditions.
• The basic concept of each HAWU consists of two halves, which can be used individually as a kind of "Loue" tarp. In bad weather, both halves can be connected with a zip, which are additionally covered with flaps secured by loops. Being able to split the weight of the tent is also a great advantage when transporting it in a rucksack.
• No corner poles are required - the special tensioning straps allow the HAWU to be pitched quickly and effectively tensioned using only the 23 cm steel pegs. It goes without saying for a Finnish tent development: the HAWU can be erected very quickly and easily, even when wearing gloves and in stormy weather.
• All HAWU tents have snowflaps, which are ideal in winter - but can also be used to increase stability/storm resistance.

• The fully enclosed HAWU offers perfect protection from bad weather and extreme weather conditions.
• For the use of a tent stove with stove pipes, a passage for the stove pipe is fitted as standard in a HAWU half.
• When using a tent stove, we recommend leaving the upper part of the tent slightly open to allow the warm air to carry the moisture outside
• there are a number of eyelets on the top of the interior for attaching ropes, e.g. for hanging up wet clothing.
• Several options are available for ventilation. For example, the tent can only be opened at the top or entire side sections can be opened.
• The entrance is fitted with a high skirt, which prevents snow from blowing in and means you don't have to crawl into the tent. It reduces heat loss when the door is open and is easy to operate with one hand.
• Requirement: pegs/pegs when using one half=5 pegs for corner points and 5 pegs for guy ropes (= 10 pieces)
• Requirement: pegs/pegs when using two halves=8 pegs for corner points and 8 pegs for guy ropes (= 16 pieces)
• Requirement: pegs/pegs for the complete Hawu 4 with extension=10 pegs for corner points and 10 pegs for guy ropes (= 20 pieces)
• The HAWU can be extended with an optional centre section for more people and more space.

Safety and surroundings

• If you really want to get "lost", the HAWU tent makes it very easy - just pitch it around a tree with wide branches and not even a helicopter will find you.
• In the event that you have to leave the tent very quickly, there is a kind of "emergency exit". You simply unzip the zip that connects the two halves and can leave the tent almost standing up with a kind of swimming movement.

Material

• The fabric is virtually waterproof and at the same time extremely breathable, but there is no membrane. The fibres in the fabric swell when wet to provide an effective seal against rain without the need for waterproof and poorly breathable coatings.
• The tent skin is flame-retardant and mould-resistant.
• The special fabric is made from four different fibres, two of which are naturally flame-retardant. This has the great advantage of not requiring chemical treatment, which would cause the effect to diminish over time.
• The cotton fabric and the seams swell when wet - which makes it virtually waterproof.
• The fabric composition enables an optimum ratio of extremely fast drying time with the best possible weight.

Recommendation for pegs and guy ropes:

• One half=5 pegs for corner points and 5 pegs for guy ropes (10 pieces).
• Complete=8 pegs for corner points and 8 pegs for guy ropes (16 pieces).
• Complete with extension=10 pegs for corner points and 10 pegs for guy ropes (20 pieces).
