The Garmin fenix™ is the first GPS outdoor watch with full GPS navigation in a classic watch design. In addition to the comprehensive navigation functions such as track and waypoint navigation, graphical track display or TracBack™ , a barometric altimeter and 3-axis compass with automatic calibration is integrated. In addition, the fenix™ offers a variety of sports functions such as heart rate measurement or pace and records the temperature directly on the watch or optionally through an external ANT+ sensor (Tempe™). The Alpinist watch is housed in a steel-reinforced case with scratch-resistant mineral glass and offers a battery life depending on the GPS mode between 16h and 50h (UltraTrac™).

From the very beginning, the fenix was developed in close cooperation with mountain guides and professional alpinists. This practicality is immediately apparent when you look at the range of functions. It extends far beyond that of conventional GPS sports watches (heart rate measurement, speed and distance display), or classic mountain sports watches (altitude, compass)
Compared to the classic GPS handheld, only the color display and the display of maps are missing - which is simply due to the display size of the watch. Of course, the fenix has a tilt-independent 3-axis compass and a precise barometric altimeter. An absolute novelty for a watch is the Bluetooth interface. For example, waypoints, routes or tracks stored on the fenix can be displayed in a map on the smartphone. Already known and proven is the wireless ANT+ data transmission. It enables the exchange of information with other Garmin devices as well as external sensors. This also includes the new, optionally available temperature sensor 'tempe'. It is attached to the backpack with a clip or simply placed outside in front of the tent and thus avoids temperature readings that are distorted by body temperature
As desired, the fenix shows a variety of other information on the very legible display. All data pages can be individually set at any time - even on the go - with up to three different pieces of information each. There are over 50 different outdoor values to choose from (e.g. time, distance to destination, meters of altitude covered separated by ascent and descent, direction, current altitude, etc.). In addition, the fenix offers over 30 parameters already familiar from the Forerunner GPS sports watches, such as pulse values and pace
